About Alias — rules, format and features

Alias is a fun team game where you explain words without naming them while your team races to guess. Perfect for parties, hangouts with friends, family gatherings, and team-building.

What is Alias?

Players split into teams. One player at a time explains words to their teammates using synonyms, descriptions, and associations — but never the word itself. Within a time limit the team tries to guess as many words as possible. The team with the most points wins.

Set up teams

Split players into teams and, if you like, pick a word set or enter your own custom list.

Explain the words

The active player sees a word and explains it to the team without saying the word itself or its root forms.

Guess before the buzzer

The team calls out guesses until the timer runs out. Every correct word earns a point.

Pass the turn

When time is up, the turn passes to the next team. This continues until all rounds are played.
