Body and health words for Alias — anatomy, illness, fitness

Elbow, sniffles, plaster and squats. The words you carry on yourself.

A set about the body and health: body parts, the senses, a cold and what the doctor prescribes, the gym and stretching. From the heel to the diaphragm. Half the words can be found on yourself — but you may not point, only explain.

Who this set is for

Even children take the first level: nose, belly and bruise are known to all. Then come tendon, pulse and vaccination — words for people who have sat in a waiting room at least once. The third level is for medics, athletes and people who read their test results before the doctor explains them.

Who this set is for

Any group: everyone has a body. Families with children clear the easy level with squeals. Doctors and coaches, with care: they know the third level by heart and explain it in Latin the room has never heard. It is most fun when there is one medic in the room explaining to everyone else.

Sniffles

Works: “when you breathe through your mouth and carry a pack of tissues everywhere.” Through what the person feels. Does not work: “inflammation of the nasal lining” — the room says cold, sinusitis, allergy and reaches the word in the last second.

Elbow

Works: “what you nudge your neighbour with at the table when he talks too much.” An everyday gesture instead of anatomy. Does not work: “the joint between the upper arm and the forearm” — the room goes through shoulder, wrist, knee and arrives late. Explain body parts through what people do with them.

Pulse

Works: “the doctor takes your wrist and looks at the watch.” A scene in the surgery leads to the word fast. Does not work: “the frequency of heart contractions” — here heart hurts more than it helps, and the room says pressure, heartbeat, rhythm.

Where groups go wrong

The first trap is pointing at yourself. The hand reaches for the knee by itself, and that is no longer an explanation. The second is body parts through neighbouring parts: “the thing between the shoulder and the hand” works once, then the room runs through every neighbouring word faster than you can talk. Explain through action: what you nudge with, what you nod with, what hurts after the gym. The third is illnesses through symptoms that fit everything: “it hurts and you have a temperature” is half the set. Find one particular detail: the pack of tissues, the green colour, the itching on the hands.
